Old Elevator of Izmir | Izmir Old Elevator Tour

Izmir has more than can be seen. One of the tourist trips is the elevator of Izmir! Historical “Asansör” is a Turkish word taken from the French word “Ascenseur"..

The historical building, built by Nesim Levi Bayraklıoğlu in 1907, was built to connect the upper slope from the lower level of Karataş. Nesim has built this elevator for elderly, pregnant and disabled people to get to the top street without difficulty.

The historical elevator was operated by Jozef Palambo and was closed in 1942 due to reasons such as the worker stopping work and death. In 1983, it was donated to Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. It was restored during the Burhan Özfatura period in 1985 and one of the elevators is used while the other is working with electricity.

What are you going to do there :

The elevator is not only functional but also the architecture is beautiful. From above, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Izmir. With large metal binoculars, it provides a closer look at buildings and areas.

Above is a great café-restaurant where you can enjoy a meal or just a drink. In the upper streets, you can see historical houses and ornate stairs.
